I was just curious as to people's views on gay marriage here.
I'm not gay and I don't really have any gay friends, but I am pro-gay marriage. Probably one reason for this is that I'm not religious, since that seems to be one of the biggest arguments against it.
To me though, it seems stupid to make a law about it. I mean, if every gay person in the world got married, how will it make my life worse?
I don't have much more to say than that right now, but please share your thoughts, views, and opinions on gay marriage or other closely related subjects.

I totally support gay marriage, they as much right to get married as straight people do. What, just cause there differn't it means they shouldn't be able to do things that "Normal" People do?

Get married in what way? They should be able to have the legal equivalent of a marriage, but as for the traditional idea of a marriage, that should be a matter for the individual church to decide.

Before we can get into gay marriage, we must ask ourselves, what is marriage?
Does it serve a purpose? Anything at all? No. There's nothing we can't do unmarried that we can do married. It isn't a promise that you're ganna stay with somone, if you're unmarried but a couple your word should be enough - don't be a couple with somone you don't trust entirely. Marriage has recently turned into a financial agreement with, generally, the husband on the loosing end. The wife decides to leave, the husband looses half of everything.
It is a combination of religion and jealousy; the religion going back to its earliest roots of marrying deities, or being married in holy places (And the government giving tax bonuses to married couples IS violating the seperation of church and state) and the jealousy being a want to posses somone, to not share them with anyone else sexually, or otherwise. Hell, the whole idea of monogomy is based off of jealousy. I know that it can be considered something humans naturally have (as apes and other closely related ancestors are monogomous), but it is not efficient for the human race as a whole - more sex = more babies = stronger species.
The entire arguement against gay marriage is religion caused. Why should one old bastard poloticians religion affect a young bastard homosexual?(i have nothing against either of them, it's just that everyone is a bastard in my book) Let's see if I can make a list of the big arguements...
1. Homosexual marriages violates traditions. True, but no more than any other new thing we try. For example, the changing of the pledge of alleigance to include 'under god' in the 1800's.
2. If gays get married, more people will think its OK and become gay. That might happen, but if you shield somone from all influences except those you approve of, will they really be themselves or just a copy of you?
3. Married gays could get childeren(a different, but similar arguement) and the childeren would be made fun of by kids with straight parrents. Well, how are we going to change our culture so its OK to have gay parents if we outlaw gay parents?
I felt like going on a tirade.

I don't see why not. I've seen gay couples ten times happier than heterosexual couples. And so what if they can't procreate? Isn't the world populated enough? I say let them be, and do whatever they want. They aren't any less important, or less privy to rights than heterosexual people. They're still people.

You can't force a private institution do something like that, but you had better give equal rights and opportunities to everyone on the legal side of things.

I personally hate how marriage has been given legal standing to begin with. I don't see how that seperates church and state.

To suggest homosexuals deserve any fewer rights than heterosexuals, or that they're in some way morally inferior is a form of bigotry.

I'm all in favour of peoples rights, so I think gay marriage should be allowed. There isn't any valid reason why a marital union shouldn't be allowed.
Its as Twitch said, though. I think its civil marriages they call them? And, i'm sure, the Reverend/Priest/Whatever with no moral issues regarding wedlock in their particular congregation, for example, but that would be the exception as opposed to the rule.
But the problem isn't simply "should homosexual marriage be allowed in a church" because i'm sure we are all familiar with the stories about the funerals for veterans who were homosexual...
But, apparently, according to a lot of Christians, the people who do that kind of thing aren't even proper Christians anyway.
Sorry for going off topic there near the end, but I felt it was valid.

I can't imagine why any gay couple would want to be married in a church, anyway. That would be like a black couple getting married at a Klan rally.

I couldn't care less, to be honest. It won't effect me, so why should I fret over it? To make the world a better place? I laugh at that.

The World would still be a horrible place to live in, so why bother?

A horrible place with people having rights is better than one where they don't, to state the obvious.

My first reaction would be "I don't care." However, that deserves a bit of explaining.
I am apathetical, not in my thoughts over whether gay people should be able to get married, but in what other people do in their spare time. As long as it is not hurting others, I tend to be all for it.
And, even more importantly, I certainly do not care enough to actively seek to deny other people happiness. There is not enough love in the world as it is; we shouldn’t be trying to elevate some forms over others. The 'slippery slope' argument aside, I could probably even be convinced to accept polygamy if the individuals involved really did actively love each other to a typical marriage level.
So, were two married people of the same gender to move in next door, my response would be the original ‘I don’t care.’ But when someone tried to stop them from getting married – when someone tried to actively deny them society’s recognition of their union – I would be the first one there to argue on the couple’s behalf. I have no tolerance for discrimination – particularly those based in dogma.
On a semi-unrelated note, are you aware that the whole concept of homosexuality in biblical times was so linked with pedophiles as to be almost entirely indistinguishable. They were synonymous, more or less, and thus the bible may very well be expressing a whole other, more reasonable sentiment. Not that I’m trying to defend it, but it’s a thought.

QFT. It just isn't that important to me. ditto. But I also don't think the government should be able to tell private "clubs" (i.e. in this case churches) what to do. If the churches want to do it, fine by me. If they don't, fine by me.

Do I really need to answer this?
Okay, yes, me=gay, me=want to be miserable just like my parents are.
Woohoo!

Do I really need to answer this? Okay, yes, me=gay, me=want to be miserable just like my parents are. Woohoo! Sounds like a plan to me. Worry not, in a dozen years or so you won't even recognize this country. The new generation is amazingly liberal - and that is going to dramatically alter the way we think about religious concepts and morals in our country. Or you could always run away to Canada. Nice, liberal Canada. You can marry whoever you want there. This assumes you live in America. But then, if you live in Europe, you don’t really need to worry about this problem too much – gay marriage there is a sure thing in the next five years or so. Either way, I'm rather satisified with the direction the world is moving in. Now if only we could get out of this rough patch before it grinds us all up.

Well, while it is encouraging, this thread is a lot more boring without people who are anti gay-marriage. Isn't it though. I'm afraid that the overwhelmingly liberal population is a bit scary to the competition, and that's understandable. Give it a few hours, eventually someone has to come on and talk about how much they hate it. Just keep in mind, however, that we are the future. Things are looking better all the time.

Now I just hope that if someone does RESPECTIVELY speak their feeling against gay marriage in the thread, that they don't get gang beat by everyone for just saying what they think.
