Please shut up. Flame-baiting is a no-no. Wrong in practice and concept, yes. Wrong in rules, no. And to address bigphatty. No I do not get emotional when I learn new information, infact that is what keeps me going. The usage of my mind and ration keeps me sane. The reasons that I have a bone to pick with christanity are numerous, but I will only touch on a few of them. First off, christianty has done its best to silence academia and destroy scientific research. Weather it be bans on stem cell research or destroying the great library of Alexandria, they have been there trying to crush knowledge. Perhaps the most personal one is being labeled as a lesser person because of the fact that i do not conform to their religion. This makes almost anything coming from those groups laughable to me and not worth merit or notice. The last reason that i am going to briefly state is the destruction of world cultures through the use of missionaries. I am going to leave it at that. I get emotional oer my rligion because I'm so passionate about it. What's there to be passionate about in science other maybe cures for diseases? And if a Christian sees you as a lesser person because you don't believe then they truely aren't Christians. We are taught to see everyone equal and try and help those looking for answers. And if a Christian puts you down because of your non-belief then they will be judged accordingly by God himself. Destruction through missonaries? I don't understand that explain please, at least aas brief as you can.

Missionaries forcing people to convert to christianty, destroying their native religions, just to get something simple like food. By destroying their native traditions they are creating a world that is more and more homogeneous. You should look into the missionaries that followed the conquistadors in south America, the inquisition and the crusades if you want to know a little more about the people that you are associating your self with. EDIT: Can't believe I missed this... How about I call science fictional? Fiction is the term used to describe works of the imagination. This is in contrast to non-fiction, which makes factual claims about reality. A large part of the appeal of fiction is its ability to evoke the entire spectrum of human emotions: to distract our minds, to give us hope in times of despair, to make us laugh, or to let us experience empathy without attachment. Science is not fiction, because science is based in fact.

I agree with you on this. Making the world more homogeneous has killed a lot of traditions that were much closer to the truth than any organized religion. And as time went on, the intent that gave the spiritual practices any meaning began to degrade, until eventually it became a large number of people simply going through the motions, with no idea why, or what it all means.

Flamebait should be against the rules, can Samuraislayer or another Admin/Mod clarify if they just missed it or what? Flame-baiting = trolling, right? Because trolling's against the rules. Good. I you.

But nukes don't start fires. And if God were going to tell us when the world was going to end, why tell us through metaphors?

This has all happened before. Vague warnings written in a millenia-old book probably shouldn't be taken seriously.

Except that with Australia, bushfires are important in the cycle of life, so without them we would have more problems than we already have.

Sure, "be good to others and the [church] or a lot of bad stuff will happen" is an essential dogma for any successful religion. [/Cynic] Sure it's sad that all of this is happening, but violence is nothing new to the human race, and it doesn't portend anything more devastating than anything that has already happened.
