Heroic Characteristics of Jacky ( An Essay by Dustin McRayRay.)
This is an essay on the heroic characteristics of Jacky, the father of Billy Elliot in the move coincidentally named “Billy Elliot.?The three main characteristics I chose to write about are but a small portion of the characteristics he displayed. The traits, or characteristics I will write about in this essay are, his strength, his leader like qualities, and his self-less nature.
On to the first, his strength, mentally, and physically. Throughout the movie he struggled to overcome his strong traditional thoughts, and to accept his son for what he was, a ballet dancer, of some skill I may add. A good example of this would be the scene where he finds his son dancing with his homosexual friend. He stood there fuming, thinking about what he should do about his son. And just as it appears he finally breaks and runs away from the situation, he’s actually headed to his sons ballet teacher, to ask how much it would cost to send him to a world renowned ballet school.
One of the other traits, or characteristics, I chose to write about is his leader like qualities. During the whole duration of the film, he is the leader of the family, the man of the house. He does what he has to do too support his family, through good time’s and through bad. He was to his family, and too his friends, which should always be a quality in a leader.
The last, but possibly the most important of his traits, or characteristics, I chose to write an essay on, is his self-less nature. Once he finally saw that his son was talented, and really wanted to pursue a career as a ballet dancer, he was willing to go back to work, ( his union was on strike, and the workers were near riot,) to support his sons dreams. He never did make it to work though, but he did end up pawning his dead wife’s jewelry, something I consider harder to do than go back to work, to pay for his sons bus ticket to London.
Though the movie was long, and wasn’t very fun at times, it does a very good job of illustrating how un-accepting society was just a few years ago, and how un-accepting it still can be. I heard more than a few children in the class laughing at Billy’s gay friend when we were watching this production in class, and I admit, I was too at one point. After watching “Billy Elliot,?I found myself asking, “How far has society really come??Less than a hundred years ago, homosexuals, blacks, and more than a few other races/ social groups were discriminated against openly, and even in the law. And even today, we cant get a law passed to allow gay marriage in the United States of America, nor have they, the United States of America, succeeded in correctly separating church from state, and just a few weeks ago, Pope Benedict insulted Canada for allowing gay marriage and allowing Muslims, and everyone else not Christian, a place to pray openly, and a place where they could all live together in relative peace. So, I must ask you, how far have we really come?

So its short when its typed out, and at 12 font, shut up!
Keep in mind this is also a work in progress, Im currently working on the "flesh out draft" and then Ill do another flesh out draft, and then, a polish draft, and then fianlly a last polish draft which may or may not be the final draft.
