Basically, I just got Morrowind, and I know i'll be throwing random questions out there in relation to Morrowind as the thread progresses... I'm just about to install the disc itself, after deleting 12 Gigs of storage space on my computer... For fear space on HD would impact the game. Might be a stupid concern, I don't know. Anyway, i'm pretty sure i'm supposed to install Tribunal and then Morrowind, and after that find the patch on the official site... That all right? I'll be able to find the patch in a sec when this thread is up. I guess as well before I leap in i'm going to be browsing some mod sites to find some mods i'd want to play too... If anyone here has released a mod, you could tell me about it here too, if you would be so kind

Honestly I would play Vanilla Morrowind at least your first time through. Once you start modding it's hard to stop.

definately. Don't do any mods until you have beaten the MQ, and then integrate mods in and start your own modding with the game. It's awesome to see the difference in gameplay, and plus it makes the first time "special"

Honestly I would play Vanilla Morrowind at least your first time through. Once you start modding it's hard to stop. Just got back now.... Not even better bodies, though? Yeah, I guess the fear would be there going mad on it and not stopping there, but better bodies on its own seems ok to me... definately. Don't do any mods until you have beaten the MQ, and then integrate mods in and start your own modding with the game. It's awesome to see the difference in gameplay, and plus it makes the first time "special" Well, i've already played through Morrowind on the xbox, and devoted 100s of hours to it back then, I got GotY on the PC, and same story, so really, its not as if i'm getting anything "new" in Morrowind. Of course, i'm not saying thats a bad thing, I love Morrowind, really. For now, i'd be happy with the better bodies one, but at some point, if I get bored of the khajit i'm currently using i'd be looking for a race that is, or is close enough to Fremen.... Or else i'd try brush up on modding skills, see if I could do so myself.

If you've already played through it on Xbox you can get mods, but pace yourself.

Damn Crash to Desktops. Two in the last 15 minutes. It has nothing to do with specs, does it? Its just a fault with the game, yeah?

eek, you know what? I noticed that, myself, too. Saving often is a sure way to keep the game going.

If you're wanting some low-impact mods, I suggest farming, bank and armourer. They don't affect any existing quests, and they're a good means of making a little cash, provided you can make the initial investments. And, of course, better bodies is a must.

For me, Oblivion crashes MUCH less than Morrowind. But uh, Morrowind was actually worth the long load times.

For me, Morrowind crashed twice, out of 40 hours of playing it.
I havent played Oblivion on PC yet. Need a new video card, mobo, and now, a monitor. Factory Direct FTW! Cheap refurbished monitors own!

For me, oblivion takes longer to load, and isn't worth it. Also, Oblivion doesn't CRASH on me, unlike Morrowind...
Morrowind quits on its own and my conputer recovers after about half a second.
Oblivion runs incredibly slowly for a minute or two, goes fine and them sometimes decides to crash, therefore locking up the computer for five minutes, before it recovers enough to let me "don't send" and close it. Then it spends another five minutes recovering before I can do anything else. >.>

Morrowind only started crashing for me when I was running loads of mods with loads of scripts at the same time. Vanilla never crashed for me. Even running about 50 decent sized mods was fine.

Run Timeslip's FPS Optimizer on Morrowind. It helps to alleviate CTD's and it gives a little FPS boost on SSE capable processors. Get MGE and use it in Morrowind to add HDR and other shaders. It also increases the FPS by forcing Morrowind to actually use the graphics card. Morrowind has hardware DX7 support, but it dosen't have hardware DX8 support. Morrowind's framerate is almost dependent on just the CPU. MGE helps to fix this by making Morrowind have hardware DX8, DX8.1 and DX9 support. Plus the infinite view distance feature is a nice addition to the game.
