You may be aware that, while doing a Google search, it is possible to filter out results you don't want by placing a "-" before the search query.
For example, if I wanted to search for all articles about Bill Clinton that don't mention Hilary, my search query would be:
Bill Clinton -Hilary
My question is: Is it possible to write a browser cookie that will filter out specified Google search results? Because... that would be pretty cool...

Well, I didn't even know I could filter results with google. Thanks for sharing that information.
Why would you need a cookie to filter results for you? Are you lazy? Besides... I'm almost positive you need javascript or active x controls to do that. Cookies are tracking devices(tracks user settings and ip address and stuff) and nothing really more.

Well, I think that you could filter results if you had a program that you ran, which would search google, and then filter out specified results. I don't think that would be too hard to write, but I think it would be mainly useless due to the huge amount of results found in a normal google search. I mean, I'd expect the search to take awhile if you had a lot of filters. There may be a better way to do it, but not that I know of.
EDIT: I think it would be possible to do that with a simple internet cookie, if Google wanted to support it.

See what I was thinking is that a browser dictates what information shows up onscreen, therefore a cookie could be designed to prevent certain search queries from showing up... For instance, it could be useful for preventing visitors to my site from Googling my name afterwards (any google search they did afterwards would include '-britney')... it could also be used for mischeif (use a script to place a "-" in front of any search terms typed into Google search, thus rendering the engine useless until the cookie is deleted...) I guess I don't understand how cookies work, or if they can be used to trigger scripts (maybe as a batch file already in the cache)... it seems like cookies could be able to do this if they can somehow influence what the browser reads and what it ignores...

Such a functionality would be possible using cookies, but it would have to be supported by google, and I don't think it is right now.
